"The Spirit itself
beareth witness with our spirit, that we
are the children of God:" (Romans 8:16)
"For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." (Acts 17:28)
"Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?" (Hebrews 12:9)
Whether or not we lived with Him before we were born seems to be unclear. Proverbs gives us a little clarity on subject.
"The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way,before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains
of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree,that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth and my delights were with the souls of men." (Proverbs 8:22-31)
These verses seem to suggest that we were with God before the world was created as children He delighted in. We also seemed to delight in the creation of the earth and in seeing those that had gone forth upon it. So if the Bible tells us we lived with God before we came to earth and that he is our Father, why did he send us away? It doesn't make sense that God would send us to earth just to see if we could make it back. There must be a reason for this earth life beyond seeking return.
Mormons: We have an “app” for that!
Through applying the teachings from the Bible and Pearl of Great Price together, it becomes very clear that we lived with God before we came to this earth.
"And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew. For I, the Lord God, created all things, of which I have spoken, spiritually, before they were naturally upon the face of the earth. For I, the Lord God, had not caused it to rain upon the face of the earth. And I, the Lord God, had created all the children of men; and not yet a man to till the ground; for in heaven created I them; and there was not yet flesh upon the earth, neither in the water, neither in the air" (Moses 3:5)
We were created as spirits in heaven before man was found on the earth. All that live on this earth are our literally our spiritual brothers and sisters. I think the lack of this knowledge is one of Satan's greatest tools. If we really understood this concept, I think we would treat each other so much better.
"And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell; And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them." (Abraham 3:24-25)
The earth was created for God's spirit children. It was created for us! The Bible confirms this and adds a dimension of our relationship with God.

We are God's literal spirit children. We lived in heaven with Him before this earth. He loves and delights in us. He made this earth for us to dwell on to test us and see if we will be obedient. If we are obedient, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither has entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him." (1 Corinthians 2:9)
